Swimming and Water Safety

As part of the National Curriculum, pupils have the opportunity to take part in swimming lessons at Sowerby Bridge swimming pool.

Pupils should be taught to:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

Children at Savile Park Primary School have the opportunity to take part in an extensive programme of swimming lessons throughout the whole of Year 4 to enable them to meet the end of KS2 National Curriculum requirements.

Pupils thoroughly enjoy swimming lessons and look forward to new challenges each week.
