Our Curriculum
Curriculum – EYFS, KS1 & KS2
At Savile Park School we pride ourselves on the fact that our pupils are inspired and supported to reach their full potential. Maths, English and Science form the core of our curriculum, however we give the highest priority to ensuring we provide a broad and rich curriculum including all of the other subjects.
Exciting topics are designed to make learning fun and personalised to meet the needs of our pupils. Learning experiences are enhanced through educational visits and visitors and specialist teachers.
Children begin their learning journey following the new statutory Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Progress is assessed against the Early Learning Goals across seven areas:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication & Language
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts & Design
In KS1 & KS2, National Curriculum core subjects are: Literacy (reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation), Mathematics and Science. These are delivered in a variety of ways that provide continuity of learning for the children across the school.
The National Curriculum foundation subjects: Design & Technology, Computing, Art & Design, History, Geography, Music, Religious Education and Physical Education (gymnastics, athletics, games, dance and swimming in Key Stage 2) are delivered in a variety of ways: cross-curricular topics which have a theme and sometimes by subject.
The school also has a programme for personal, social, health and citizenship education (PSHCE). Sex education and drugs education are taught as part of the PSHCE curriculum.
The school uses specialist sport and music teachers in the curriculum so that children will have the opportunity to learn.
French is taught across the school as part of Modern Foreign Language.
