In the Foundation Stage our aim is to provide the very best start in life for your child by developing the skills they need to become independent learners. We follow the statutory framework of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which sets the standards for learning and development for all children up to the end of their Reception year.
Learning through play underpins all of the EYFS and the framework is split into three “Prime” areas of learning and development: Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), Physical Development (PD) and Communication and Language (CL). There are also four “Specific” areas of learning and development: Literacy Development (LD), Maths (MD), Understanding of the World(UW) and Expressive Arts and Design (EAD).
At Savile Park we encourage children to become independent and curious learners and our environment is structured to reflect children’s varying interests and individual learning styles. We are also very fortunate to have access to a fantastic outdoor classroom. We place equal importance on the indoor and outdoor learning environments. Within each classroom the children have access to nine areas: Role Play, Writing, Reading, Sand, Creative, Construction, Numeracy, ICT and Continuous Snack. In each area there are activities for the children to complete in order to consolidate and extend prior learning.
On-going formative assessment is at the heart of our practice. We observe children which allows staff to plan experiences and learning opportunities through a highly structured environment in order to deepen children’s understanding and drive their learning forward to the next stage.
Homework: Will be set linked to topic work as and when it is appropriate.
PE: Monday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon
Reading: Bring your book to school every day. Please read 3 times a week.

Animals in their habitat
Reception children looked at different parts of the Chinese New Year.
Our friends are really important to us. So we’ve painted pictures of them.
The children had to knead and shape the clay into Snowmen then think about what a snowman wears. Some of the children have also made pots with the clay.
One of the nursery rhymes we have been looking at is Incy Wincy Spider.
We have used different materials to make our art work.
